Mit Hybrid Practice verbinde ich Songs, die ich mit Hilfe von KI im Stil der frühen Nu-Metal-Ära erstellt habe, mit buchstäblich eigenhändig live eingespielter E-Gitarre. Der hybride Aspekt ist – wie schon bei Mensch/Maschine – die Fusion von Technik mit handgemachter Musik.

Die ersten beiden großen Nu-Metal-Alben um 2000 prägten den Sound einer Generation: harte Gitarrenriffs, Hip-Hop-Elemente, elektronische Samples und Pop-Strukturen – eine „Hybrid-Theorie“, die den Alternative Rock massentauglich machte. Rockige Gitarren-Soli kamen darin allerdings nie vor. Genau deshalb wollte ich herausfinden, ob diese Mischung funktioniert.

Als Musiker passe ich den Prompt gezielt an und arbeite wie ein Produzent im Tonstudio. Alle Sologitarren spiele ich selbst live ein – aus maximal drei Versionen wähle ich die am wenigsten schlechte aus. Danach erlaube ich mir nur grobe Lautstärke-Korrekturen. Glattgebügelt wird bewusst nichts. Und weil es großen Spaß macht: Ähnliche Projekte mit anderen Musikrichtungen könnten folgen.

With Hybrid Practice I combine songs I created with the help of AI in the style of the early nu-metal era with electric guitar played live, literally by my own hands. The hybrid aspect — as with man/machine — is the fusion of technology and handmade music.

The first big nu-metal albums around 2000 shaped the sound of a generation: heavy riffs, hip-hop elements, electronic samples and pop structures — a “hybrid theory” that took alternative rock mainstream. Yet rock guitar solos never appeared in it. That's exactly why I wanted to find out whether this mix would work.

As a musician I fine-tune the prompt and work like a producer in the studio. I play all solo guitars live myself — out of at most three takes I pick the least bad one. After that, only rough volume corrections. Nothing gets polished on purpose. And since it's great fun: similar projects in other genres may follow.
